Winter Time at Go Away Farm
Winter is here! So far it has been rather mild, even to the point of worrying us about our peaches budding out in late January... That isn't good. I'm hopeful for at least a couple keepers for a bowl of ice cream in the summer:-) We'll see. Nature is an amazing thing. One of the interesting things at Go Away is a wild crop of chili pequin peppers all over our pasture. The cows have obviously eaten them at some point along the way, and they have done a fabulous job of replanting them. We probably have 25 to 30 plants growing wild (see photo below). We could use some rain. The ponds are too low for this time of year, which is worrisome for the upcoming summer. Come on rain. You are welcome here!

Jarvis killed the first buck we've ever taken off the farm. Nice one. We had him butchered and made into sausage and back strap. Next year we'll get some venison steaks. Now, if those little pigs would come back around we'd have some seriously good pork chops to go with our venison sausage and gravy:-)
Our red passion flower right before the frost got it. These are amazing beauties.
I love this moon over the cupola on the conference barn.
Our rooster. He isn't fond of the new girls we've introduced. We are hopeful he comes around in due course. They have taken to hanging around outside the chicken house after dark to keep from going in where he is trying to sleep. He must make it rather uncomfortable for them. Lots of squawking going on in there.
